Dues & Fees

Financial Policy

The Commission’s financial support comes from annual dues paid by accredited and candidate institutions of higher education in the Middle States region and from fees for special services and programs.

This financial support helps to sustain an independent non-government accrediting process, encourage the improvement of higher education, and ensure freedom so that institutions might participate in the development of policies and procedures that foster educational excellence.

Fees cover the actual costs of those activities, including staff travel and administrative overhead.

All dues, fees, travel reimbursements, and other charges are billed by and payable to the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. All team members, consultants, and special visitors are reimbursed through the MSA office upon presentation of vouchers and receipts. Direct financial transactions between evaluators and host institutions are not permitted.

Annual Dues

Effective July 1, 2005, member and candidate institutions will be billed for annual dues on the basis of:

  • The total educational and general (E&G) expenditures reported on the institution's most recent annual Institutional Profile and
  • An annual "unit fee." For the purposes of establishing dues, a unit refers to each branch campus and additional location with more than 500 students.

Dues Calculator

The Dues Calculator determines:

  1. an institution's base dues according to the range within which its E&G expenditures fall;
  2. an incremental dues amount determined by the difference between the minimum E&G expense for that range and the institution's actual E&G; and
  3. an additional amount for each unit.
